Dr Dumisani Magadlela
Overview
Our guest this month, Dr Dumisani Magadlela (better known as Dumi), has gained international recognition for the work he has done in integrating the ancient African philosophy of Ubuntu into leadership development – and as a natural extension, into coaching and team coaching.
In this conversation, Barbara will be exploring with Dumi the value that Ubuntu and other ancient wisdoms can contribute to our profession and seeking to learn more about the concept of Authentic Human Connection and its application in coaching leaders and teams.
They’ll also talk about Ubuntu Team Coaching – how we can integrate these concepts into our ‘being’ – who we are as team coaches – as well as our ‘doing’ of team coaching – and how we can apply them in our work.

About Dumi
Dr Dumi Magadlela is an accredited executive coach, team coach, coach trainer, leadership development facilitator, and organizational ‘people whisperer’, with a global client base in the private and public sectors. Currently he works for the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) designing and delivering leadership, coaching and other people skills development courses across the African continent.
Dumi is an author and trainer in Executive Coaching, Team Coaching, Ubuntu Intelligence, Ubuntu coaching approaches, and other human connection approaches. He serves as Vice Chairperson on the International Coaching Federation (ICF) Global Board and is a Trustee on the Board of the International Coaching Federation Foundation.
He co-founded the Ubuntu Coaching Foundation at The Coaching Centre in South Africa where he has been part of Senior Faculty for over twelve years and he is part-time faculty at the University of Stellenbosch Business School’s MPhil in Management Coaching. As part of the international faculty at the WBECS Global Team Coaching Institute (GTCI), he codesigns and co-facilitates Team Coaching training with other international faculty members.
Dumi is a regularly featured speaker and panellist on coaching, leadership, and people development and has recently featured in a TEDxUniversityOfSouthAfrica event.
